The CMX500 radio communications tester from Rohde & Schwarz now handles over 500 RF and protocol test cases for 5G radios.
Attaining conformance approval is essential before you can bring your wireless product to market. Cellular devices must work over numerous mobile networks, which means they need certification from accredited testing laboratories. In October 2022, Rohde & Schwarz successfully passed verification for 5G NR protocol conformance test cases to the Global Certification Forum (GCF) at the GCF CAG#72 meeting. That brings to over 500 the number of GCF-certified verified protocol conformance test cases performed by the R&SCMX500 radio communication tester. The company currently claims that number represents a greater number test cases than its competitors.
The company says that 41 of those 500+ certified test cases cover 3GPP Rel. 16. They include:
- Self-organizing network-minimized drive test technology (SON-MDT);
- Radio capability signaling optimization (RACS);
- 5G NR mobility enhancement;
- Enhancement of network slicing (eNS).
In addition, Rohde & Schwarz offers 85 IMS protocol test cases. The cover certification of IP multimedia subsystems.
The CMX500 is a modular signaling test system that lets you configure it with I/O modules to suit your needs. It covers 5G FR1 frequencies up to 8 GHz and mmWave (FR2) frequencies to 50 GHz. You can use it to perform RF and protocol testing on components to 5G radios. It also installs in a Rohde & Schwarz test chamber such as the 1800C Compact Antenna Test Range (see video) for performing RF precompliance or compliance testing.
