Alcatel-Lucent today announced an HSPA version of its laptop security product developed by McAfee and said it’s already in use by carriers around the world.
The product is sold as “OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian with McAfee Endpoint Encryption” – which means it can wirelessly authorize users before devices boot and can send a kill message to devices that are lost or stolen. McAfee also includes full disk encryption.
“With tens of thousands of laptops lost or stolen each year, it is important that customers have the most advanced solution available to protect their data,” said Tom Burns, head of Alcatel-Lucent enterprise activities, in a statement today.
Network operators who intend to offer the 3500 include VComm in England, Magyar Telekom in Hungary, IIJ in Japan and SingTel in Singapore. KFKI/Magyar Telekom are conducting a trial, officials said.
Alcatel already has a CDMA version which is sold by Sprint Nextel.
