Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos told Re/code he is open to seeing his company’s Appstore on more OEM’s devices.
Amazon just signed a licensing deal with BlackBerry that will open access to Amazon’s consumer application storefront for BB devices starting with the BlackBerry 10.3 update expected in the fall.
In the days leading up to the unveiling of its first smartphone, Amazon boasted of the 240,000 applications that have amassed in its store. Bezos said the BlackBerry deal and more like it would be a boost for the developers who work on readying Android apps for the Amazon store.
Analysis startup Trefis praised the licensing move, saying it would allow BlackBerry to boost its struggling app ecosystem with less effort put into attracting developers.
Amazon’s Appstore is available for all Android devices and already comes pre-loaded on some devices.
