eReaders continue to sell well as shoppers hit the stores this holiday season. According to Amazon.com, November was the best sales month ever for the Kindle, even before Cyber Monday.
According to a press release, the Amazon Kindle is the No. 1 selling product across all product categories on Amazon. The latest generation Kindle, which was released in October and allows users to wirelessly download content in over 100 countries, currently sells for $259.
Barnes & Noble’s new eReader, the Nook, also has seen impressive sales in November. The Nook, which was officially announced on Oct. 20, is back-ordered.
According to The Wall Street Journal, citing a Barnes & Noble spokeswoman, demand for the Nook has exceeded the company’s expectations. As a result, a second wave of shipping is being set for Dec. 11.
The Nook, which sells for $259, is Barnes & Noble’s first entry in the growing market for eReaders. Amazon’s Kindle has long been the market leader in the space. Sony also offers a line of eBook readers. The Nook differentiates itself with an Android operating system, as well as a dual screen with a full color touchscreen panel at the bottom of the device.
Both the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook get their wireless connectivity through AT&T. The Kindle was initially powered by Sprint Nextel, but Amazon recently switched service for the device to AT&T.
