Just days after launching its unusual Passport flagship smartphone, BlackBerry today announced a $207 million loss for its second fical quarter of 2015.
Revenue for the second quarter of fiscal 2015 was $916 million, which broken out included approximately 46 percent for hardware, 46 percent for services and 8 percent for software and other revenue. Analyst consensus was more in line with $940 million in revenue for the quarter.
BlackBerry said it shipped 2.1 million smartphones during its most recent quarter, with approximately 2.4 million selling through to end customers.
CEO John Chen said in a statement that the company will achieve breakeven cash flow by the end of the company’s fiscal 2015.
“Our workforce restructuring is now complete, and we are focusing on revenue growth with judicious investments to further our leadership position in enterprise mobility and security, driving us towards non-GAAP profitability during FY16,” Chen said.
During an earnings call, Chen said BlackBerry had taken about 200,000 pre-orders for the new square-shapped Passport smartphone.
Shares of BlackBerry were up 2 percent in early trading Friday to $10.00.
