Internet technologies company Vertical Computer Systems has filed a suit against LG and Samsung alleging several of their Android-based smartphones violate its patents on accessing Web pages.

In a suit filed with the U.S. District Court for Eastern Texas, Vertical claims the Android-based LG Ally and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, Captivate, Fascinate, Epic, Mesmerize and i500 violate two of its patents on methods to access the Internet. The suit also levies patent infringement charges against software maker Interwoven.

“Defendants LG and Samsung have also infringed and continue to infringe the ‘744 and ‘629 patents by actively inducing others to infringe with specific intent and by contributing to the infringement by others by the use, sale and/or offer for sale of the infringing cellular telephones,” Vertical wrote in its complaint.

Vertical wants the court to rule that LG, Samsung and Interwoven are liable for royalties and has asked the judge to issue an injunction enjoining the companies from further patent violations. Vertical is also pursuing compensation for damages caused by the alleged patent infringement.

Disputes over patents used in Google’s Android operating system have been at the heart of some other recent lawsuits, including the ongoing spat between Microsoft and Motorola and Gemalto’s complaint against Google, HTC, Motorola and Samsung.
