There have been skeptics aplenty ever since Google and its friends announced plans for a Linux-based handset using an operating system called Android. Among them were some developers who were having trouble using the Android software developer kit.
Now the Linux systems company a la Mobile has been showing off Android running on a real handset, HTC’s Qtek 9090 smartphone. A la Mobile’s demo includes a browser, phone dialer, audio player, maps, camera, games, calendar, contacts manager, calculator, tasks manager and notes.
Pauline Alker, president and CEO of a la Mobile, says the company set up the demo to prove that Android not only works on phones but can be a major phone OS.
