Apple yesterday released a beta version of iOS 4.3 to developers. The new version will add numerous new features to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Technology websites and blogs are abuzz with what’s new in the latest version of Apple’s OS.
Engadget reports new 4- and 5-finger multi-touch gestures that appear to be aimed at the iPad. Additionally, the mobile hot spot functionality that Verizon announced Tuesday with its version of iPhone 4 appears to be coming to all iPhones via this latest release, although the functionality will have to be enabled on the carrier side of things.
Perhaps most notable is a new API being offered in the SDK that would allow third-party apps to use Apple’s AirPlay functionality to stream content to the company’s AppleTV device. For example, a music service like Rhapsody could employ the AirPlay API, which would then allow users to stream music from the service directly to their TV.
AirPlay functionality is currently only available within native Apple apps.
Multiple websites are reporting the revelation of new iPhones and iPad devices hidden in the code of the new SDK, and MacRumors found a tag for a new “Find My Friends” feature that could be added to Apple’s Mobile Me service.
