Apple has responded to complaints about poor battery life on the iPhone 4S, saying the problem, which is not effecting all users, is attributable to a software flaw in iOS 5. Apple confirmed that it will have a fix available in the coming weeks.
“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,” an Apple spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal. “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”
According to multiple outlets, Apple has all but fixed the problem and has rolled out a developer build of iOS 5.0.1 that includes a fix for battery drain.
Perhaps most importantly, the problem appears limited to software only, meaning there is nothing inherently wrong with the iPhone 4S hardware.
