Apple today sent out invitations to a March 7 media event, where the company is expected to unveil the iPad 3.
The event will be held in the Yerba Buena Center of the Arts in San Francisco. The invitation features a picture of a finger touching an app on what looks like an iPad, with copy that reads, “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”
Rumors have been building about a possible LTE-capable iPad refresh since reports surfaced weeks ago about a possible early March event. Speculation about what exactly Apple will cover during the event range from just an iPad refresh to the possible unveiling of a new Apple TV product.
New features predicted for the iPad 3 include an LTE radio, a better camera, as well as an improved retina display, but Apple as usual is remaining mum on the matter.
Apple’s iPad remains the hottest tablet on the market. The company controlled 57 percent of the U.S. tablet market in the fourth quarter of 2011, shipping 15.4 million iPads.
Shares of Apple hit an all-time high on the news, trading at $533 in afternoon trading.
