As the Apple-Samsung patent trial surges on, Apple took the time to politely troll Samsung in a full-page newspaper ad running Tuesday.
On Earth Day, Apple’s ad focuses on the company’s greenest efforts while the headline, “There are some ideas we want every company to copy,” gets in a subtle jab at Samsung and the OEM’s alleged infringement on Apple patents.
9to5Mac ran the full text of the ad, which begins “There’s one area where we actually encourage others to imitate us. Because when everyone makes the environment a priority, we all benefit.”
As Apple touts its green initiatives and promises to share environment-friendly ideas with other companies, it’s seeking nearly $2.2 billion from Samsung for patent violations. Apple alleges that Samsung infringed on five different patents and should pay a $40 per device royalty fee for the use of those technologies.
But yesterday in court, an expert witness for Samsung said the royalty per device comes out close to $1.75, meaning that Samsung would owe Apple about $38 million over the patent dispute, according to CNET.
The current Apple-Samsung patent trial comes less than two years after Samsung was found to be infringing on Apple patents and ordered to pay $900 million. Samsung is appealing that decision and continues to sell devices using the technology.
