MobileIron got an early Christmas present, in a sense. AT&T today announced a new service based on MobileIron’s Virtual Smartphone Platform that is designed to help businesses and organizations better manage and secure smartphones on multiple operating systems.
AT&T bills itself as the carrier with the most smartphone choices, and given the rise of smartphones in the enterprise, the hook-up makes sense. MobileIron VSP from AT&T will provide over-the-air protection and control for smartphones being used within an organization, both company and employee-owned.
It also provides visibility for integrated devices running across multiple wireless service providers. The solution is expected to be available for purchase by AT&T business customers by the end of this month.
In a press release, the companies cite a recent IDC market share report that predicts the worldwide mobile device management market will grow by a CAGR of 7.6 percent over the next five years to reach $382.7 million in revenue by 2014.
