AT&T’s wireless data networks went down in the Southeast and Midwest United States yesterday, causing users to be without e-mail and the Internet on their mobile phones for most of the workday.
Issues with AT&T’s EDGE and UMTS networks throughout those regions began around 6:30 a.m. EST. By 3:30 p.m., AT&T said service was mostly repaired.
The company apologized for the inconvenience to customers, but did not say how many users were affected or what caused the problem.
Research In Motion’s BlackBerry smartphones and Apple’s iPhone rely on AT&T’s EDGE or UMTS networks for data services.
