AT&T signed an expansion agreement with Alcatel-Lucent, in which the equipment supplier will provide technology. To expand capacity of the No. 1 U.S. wireless operator’s network. Besides expanding capacity, Alcatel-Lucent will help in offering next-generation services such as advanced multimedia, mobile broadband as well as audio and video streaming through 3G handsets.
The new agreement builds on an existing relationship between the two companies signed in November 2004.
Terms of the agreement were not immediately disclosed.
In related news, Alcatel-Lucent appointed Martin Jordy to lead the company’s organization serving Japan. In his new post, Martin will assume overall responsibility for managing the day-to-day business activities of Alcatel-Lucent in Japan.
