AT&T Adds Free Roaming in Mexico to Mobile Share Value Plans

By Diana Goovaerts | November 13, 2015

AT&T announced Wednesday is will now offer its Mobile Share Value customers a free Mexico Roaming Bonus.

The new feature can be added to a customer’s existing Mobile Share Value plan at no extra charge and includes unlimited texting to anywhere in the world as well as unlimited talk within Mexico and from Mexico to the United States and 1 GB of roaming data for use in Mexico. Additional roaming data will cost $20 per GB, the carrier said.

AT&T said the feature is available starting today.

The move builds on previous announcements from AT&T and its subsidiary brand Cricket that have given customers a variety of international calling options.

After its acquisition of Mexican wireless provider Iusacell in January, AT&T announced it would offer customers unlimited calling from the United States to Mexico with its $5 per month World Connect Value package.

In July, Cricket began offering free talk and text to and from Mexico with its new RoundTrip feature for Smart and Pro monthly plans, and followed with the launch of free data roaming in Mexico and Canada at the end of October.

AT&T’s Wednesday announcement was echoed by Verizon on Thursday when the carrier announced a new international roaming solution that will allow subscribers to deduct roaming activity from their regular monthly plan for a fee of $2 per day in Mexico and Canada and $10 per day in more than 65 other locations.
