AT&T Android Phones to Come with Uber Integration

By Andrew Berg | May 28, 2014

AT&T and the ride service Uber announced Wedesday that they have partnered to provide easier access to Uber.

Uber is a mobile application that connects users with a driver. Drivers arrive curbside and riders can track the arrival of their ride from the app. Payment is billed to the user’s credit card, PayPal account, or Google Wallet at the end of the trip.

According to a press release, beginning this summer, the Uber app will be integrated in new AT&T Android phones. AT&T will also be one of Uber’s key providers of new wireless service to drivers on the Uber platform in the United States.

Uber said its goal with the partnership is to make sure that users can open the Uber app and connect to the network from anywhere.

In a blog on its website, Uber said it is looking to beyond expansion to individual cities and simply toward coverage.

“Today, the Uber platform serves over 137,000,000 Americans (43 percent of the population in just 4 years) and AT&T will help power UberEVERYWHERE and our continued expansion,” the company said.

This collaboration builds on Uber’s current work with AT&T managing its fast-growing device and data needs for its partner-drivers, who need to rely on a high-speed, strong network connection to keep their businesses running.
