AT&T on Wednesday unveiled a new app that will allow customers to purchase credits for prepaid cell phones in foreign countries.
AT&T said the service offers a “convenient way to enable customers to connect more with their loved ones internationally.”
With the AT&T Recharge app, customers with family or friends in Mexico, Barbados, Belize, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama or Peru will be able to purchase up to $30 in credits for their loved one’s prepaid phone.
Through Recharge, AT&T customer can send $10, $15, $20 or $30 to a compatible prepaid cell phone running iOS 8.1 or higher, Android 4.4.2 or higher, or Windows 8.0 or higher. For now, older devices are not supported by the service, but may be added soon, AT&T said.
The individual receiving the prepaid credit is not required to be an AT&T customer, the company said, and any credits sent are billed to the AT&T customer’s postpaid account.
