AT&T is boosting its unlimited data plan with HBO. Beginning on April 6, the Unlimited Plus plan will be bundled with HBO for both new and existing subscribers.
The package is intended to pull in customers looking for a joint entertainment and phone plan. This is the first AT&T plan to contain free premium video without necessarily also including an AT&T video service.
“This latest unlimited wireless plan shows AT&T continuing to innovate and give customers what they desire,” said Bernadette Aulestia, executive vice president of Global Distribution, HBO. “When consumers see HBO as part of an entertainment package, they know they are getting the valued benefit of some of the greatest original programming and most recent Hollywood movies.”
HBO content will be accessible to Unlimited Plus wireless customers through the DirecTV Now or HBO Go apps starting in April. HBO will also be accessible at no extra cost to customers who subscribe to any AT&T video service. Customers who are already subscribed to HBO through an AT&T video service will receive a credit on their video bills for one or two billing cycles.
The Unlimited Plus plan already also includes a $25 monthly video credit for any AT&T video service, which include DirecTV, DirecTV Now, or U-verse TV.
AT&T also leveraged its HBO partnership in March when the mobile carrier added a free year of HBO to the DirecTV Now streaming service.
HBO scored higher than Netflix on customer satisfaction in a January survey by Strategy Analytics’ Digital Media Strategies service. Another survey from March pointed out 19 percent of customers subscribed to streaming services use three or more services, including “a-la-carte” channels such as HBO.
