AT&T this week introduced a mesh system designed to expand in-home WiFi coverage by up to 1,000 square feet.
The telecom giant said that its AT&T Smart Wi-Fi Extender, made by wireless equipment maker AirTies, provides strong, seamless signals while reducing congestion.
The system can also automatically select the optimal connection for individual devices in the home, and AT&T touted a Smart Home Manager app to allow easy set-up and monitoring of WiFi networks.
“We built our WiFi technology to give you the best possible home internet experience, no matter how many new smart devices you get,” Stephen Vincent of the company’s broadband products segment wrote in a blog post.
AT&T added that its customers would pay “a fraction” of the cost of similar products from third parties. The company’s website lists a starting price of about $35 for the Smart Wi-Fi Extender.
