U.S. wireless carriers AT&T and T-Mobile are making it easier for their customers to lend a hand in the wake of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.
The shooting, which occurred early Sunday morning at a popular gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla., resulted in the death of at least 50 individuals and injury of 53 others.
T-Mobile on Monday launched a “Text to Give” campaign that allows customers to make a donation to the Orlando Health Foundation by texting “ORLANDO” to 20222. Each text will make a donation of $10 that will show up as a one-time charge the customer’s monthly bill.
The Orlando Health Foundation supports the Orlando Regional Medical Center Level One Trauma Center, where 44 of the shooting victims were taken after the attack. As of Tuesday, 27 victims remained hospitalized, including six in intensive care, the Associated Press reported.
AT&T on Tuesday also launched a text to donate campaign benefitting the Trauma Center. As with the T-Mobile campaign, AT&T customers can text “Orlando” to 20222 to make a $10 donation.
No text message fees will apply to T-Mobile or AT&T customers who donate, the carriers said.
Update (6/17/16): Verizon on Friday also launched a giving campaign to support the OneOrlando Fund. Formed by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, the OneOrlando Fund aims to provide “a way to help respond to the needs of Orlando’s community” in the wake of the attack.
To support the fund, Verizon customers can text the word ORLANDO to 501501 and $10 will be added to their wireless bill upon confirmation of their billing zip code.
