AT&T to Offer New Unlimited Plans Bundled with WatchTV

By Bevin Fletcher | June 21, 2018

AT&T is launching two new unlimited wireless plans next week that will be bundled with WatchTV, the carrier’s new sports-free, skinny over-the-top video service.

Customers who subscribe to either AT&T’s Unlimited &More plan or Unlimited &More Premium plan will have access to the service, which includes more than 30 live channels, along with more than 15,000 on-demand TV shows and movies at no extra cost. The service will also be available on a standalone basis for $15 per month, with additional details about that offer “coming soon.”

AT&T detailed the new unlimited plans and video service not long after the telecom giant closed on its $85 billion acquisition of Time Warner. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson first revealed plans for WatchTV during his testimony at the antitrust trial challenging the merger.

AT&T’s Unlimited &More plan starts at $70 per month for a single line — $5 more than the current $65 cost of the Unlimited Choice Enhanced plan — or $160 per month for four lines. In addition to WatchTV, the plan offers a $15 monthly credit toward AT&T’s DirecTV Now service.

The premium option starts at $80 per month for a single line and $190 for four lines. The plan gives access to WatchTV and one premium add-on, with choices including HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, Amazon Music Unlimited, Pandora Premium or VRV. Subscribers also get 15 gigabits of high-speed tethering, high-definition video and a $15 monthly credit toward DirecTV, DirecTV Now or U-verse TV.

AT&T noted speeds may be slowed when the network is congested or after users hit 22 gigabytes of data each month.

The new wireless plans come as other carriers introduce a host of unlimited options, with Verizon unveiling a more expensive unlimited plan and the ability to mix and match different tiers within the same family account. Sprint, meanwhile, ran a short-lived promotion offering low-cost $15 per month unlimited plan.

AT&T is hoping to lure more customers in with its video bundle and capitalize on its newly acquired content.
