From the beginning of its saga to bring BlackBerry 10 to market, BlackBerry executives have made a concerted effort to attract big-name developers to its QNX-based platform. A recent report from Boy Genius Report claimed that BlackBerry 10-based Z10 has been luring Android and iOS users. According to the report, 50 percent of those who purchased a Z10 in Canada migrated from Android and iOS, while a third of those who purchased the device in the United Kingdom came from those platforms.
BlackBerry’s market share fell 33 percent in 2012 according to Gartner. That leaves BlackBerry with just 3.3 percent of smartphone sales by operating system globally. Android currently controls 69.7 percent of the total market, followed in second place by iOS, which took 20.9 percent in 2012.
