Bluegrass Cellular Partners with Verizon to Begin LTE Advanced Roll Out

Kentucky-based wireless carrier Bluegrass Cellular has begun its roll out of LTE-Advanced services courtesy of a partnership with Verizon Wireless.

The carrier on Friday said LTE Advanced technology – which includes carrier aggregation for faster speeds – will be launched is now available in unspecified “select areas” within Bluegrass’ Kentucky coverage area. The upgrade will provide users with download speeds that are up to 50 percent faster, Bluegrass said.

LTE Advanced will be made available to Bluegrass customers with the HTC One M9, iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and SE, iPad Pro, LG G4, G5, V10 and V20, and Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 edge, S7 and S7 edge via a software update, the company said.

“We’re dedicated to bringing the most advanced wireless technology home to Kentucky,” Bluegrass CEO Ron Smith said. “Because of this, more of our wireless customers will have access to the fastest wireless network there is. Making this technology available in our community is something we’re very proud of and will continue to focus on in the future.”

The roll out for Bluegrass follows Verizon’s own launch of the technology in August.

At the time, Verizon said it was lighting up LTE Advanced – with two-and three-channel carrier aggregation – in 461 cities across the country.

Other major wireless carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint have also launched LTE Advanced.
