C Spire is jumping on the unlimited train alongside its larger U.S. competitors – for the holidays, at least.
The nation’s sixth largest wireless carrier last week launched a holiday promotion offering customers unlimited voice and data for $65 per month. The deal is available to customers who purchase a smartphone on a new line with a device payment plan and two-year agreement, though C Spire noted the deal can be combined with its other offer of a free smartphone when customers activate a new line with a payment plan and device trade in. Available free devices include the iPhone 7, Samsung Galaxy S7, and the LG G5, C Spire said.
According to C Spire Senior Vice President of Consumer Markets Suzy Hays, the unlimited offer fulfills a demand the carrier has seen among its customers.
“At C Spire, the holidays are a great opportunity to do something extra for our customers,” Hays said. “The unlimited plan we’re rolling out for the holidays is a way to give our customers something that they’ve sought for a while now.”
And she’s right. Tier-1 wireless carriers T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T all have unlimited offers on the table – though AT&T’s is only available to DirecTV subs – and have reported significant responses from the market. Notably absent from the unlimited crush is Verizon, which has steadfastly maintained unlimited isn’t an option and faced criticism from competitors for the decision.
As with the offers from T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T, which slow speeds after 20-something gigabytes of usage in a month, C Spire said it will cap speeds after 25 GB of usage. Hays said the limited-time nature of the offer and the slowed speeds after 25 GB will help the carrier “continue to provide all our customers a high quality network.”
C Spire also introduced a new 3 GB voice and data plan for $40 per month and a promotion offering the third and fourth lines free on its 25 GB shared data plan. The carrier is also waiving fees on all new activations.
