Cavium Launches New Production Ready Small Cell Reference Design with Support for Dual Radio Access Technology

By Staff Author | June 17, 2013

Concurrent LTE and WCDMA solution supporting over 128 active users.

San Jose, CA. and Taipei, Taiwan– Cavium, Inc. has announced the introduction of an OCTEON Fusion based reference design for enterprise and service provider small cells that provide simultaneous LTE and WCDMA operations.

By including 3G support, this new Dual-RAT solution extends the capabilities of Cavium’s widely deployed enterprise-class LTE small cell SoC. A production-ready reference design is available to further assist Cavium’s customers to quickly bring commercial small cell devices to market. This reference design includes manufacturing files as well as LTE and WCDMA L1 – L3 software stacks, application layer APIs and a software development kit.

“Our 4G LTE solution is already in volume deployment today. We are pleased to add this new dual-RAT reference design that supports both WCDMA and LTE”, says Raj Singh, General Manager of Cavium’s Wireless Broadband Group. “This reference design will expand the addressable markets for our small cell solutions.”

The OCTEON Fusion line of small cell baseband processors, reference designs and end-to-end software capabilities delivers power-conscious and cost effective solutions allowing Cavium’s customers to compete for a significant share of the fast-growing enterprise small cell business.  The Cavium LTE solution which supports 64/128 users are capable of low power POE+ operation for up to 32 users. The unique architecture of Cavium’s FusionStack integrated L2-L3
software allows for seamless scaling from 16 to 128 active scheduled users.
