Celeno Wi-Fi to Wirelessly Enable After-Market IPTV/OTT Set-Top Boxes

By Staff Author | September 6, 2012

Amino Communications and Celeno Communications announced that Amino’s A140/A540 set-top boxes (STBs) will now be complemented by a Wi-Fi USB solution using Celeno’s video-grade Wi-Fi technology.

The Amino Wi-Fi USB dongle enables service providers to offer a video-grade Wi-Fi solution that accelerates the adoption of IP-based video services by enabling after-market IP STBs to wirelessly receive HD content.  Powered by Celeno’s field-proven OptimizAIR™ technology, the device maximizes range, throughput, and signal consistency and ensures low packet drop, jitter, and latency, while achieving superior Quality of Service (QoS) for perfect, lossless video streaming.

By combining an 802.11n MAC, baseband and 3×3 radio on a single silicon with a memory-less USB architecture, the device significantly reduces the service providers’ cost of deployment as it is simply plugged into an external USB connector on a STB or other display device. This effectively transforms the STB or TV into a video-grade Wi-Fi connected device to ensure plug-and-play, self-install simplicity.

“In a highly competitive market, service providers need to offer innovative video services to retain and attract customers,” says Amino’s VP of Product Management, Mike Greenall. “This solution, embedded with Celeno’s best-in-class Wi-Fi technology, will enable our customers to quickly, seamlessly and cost effectively enable STBs for wireless HD video streaming while maintaining high QoS and QoE. This will increase our customers’ satisfaction and significantly enhance their competitive positioning.”

“Celeno’s 3×3 video-grade technology with digital beam forming meets and even exceeds the rigorous requirements for the wireless distribution of IPTV and OTT content,” says Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno. “It combines high performance for flicker-free video with the flexibility and ease of use required by today’s discerning consumer.”

The device operates in both the 2.4GHz and the uncongested 5GHz frequency channels and works with legacy home networks as well as advanced concurrent dual-band networks.

The Amino Wi-Fi solution will be demonstrated at IBC 2012 at the Amino stand, Hall 5. B40. Celeno will also be exhibiting at IBC 2012 and can be found in Hall 3 Area A19.
