Cellular South is now offering customized local content through partner Viigo, the carrier and the startup both said today.
Customers of BlackBerry, HTC Touch and Motorola Q9 phones can access local newspaper content from the Clarion-Ledger, Delta Democrat Times, Hattiesburg American, Memphis Business Journal, Memphis Commercial Appeal, Meridian Star and Mobile Press Register.
Cellular South also configured local content for NCAA football in the Southeastern Conference and Conference USA.
“Cellular South is the first wireless carrier in the nation to make a customized version of [Viigo] content available to customers,” said Wade Smith, senior manager of Consumer Technology and Product Development for Cellular South, in a statement today.
Viigo’s software is available for free via e-mail, text messaging or over the Web. The company in 2009 plans to focus on financial content, local content and podcasts, spokesman Matt Bogart said.
