China Mobile has chosen Alcatel-Lucent’s lightRadio 4G TD-LTE overlay for the nationwide rollout of what will be the world’s largest 4G network.
China Mobile has been actively carrying out large-scale TD-LTE live network trials in China for more than three years and is now scaling the deployments.
According to a press release, this additional award to Alcatel-Lucent accounts for 11 percent of CMCC’s strategic plan to deploy more than 207,000 TD-LTE base stations in China by the end of 2013.
China Mobile has more than 750 million subscribers, which accounts for more than 60 percent of the total mobile subscriptions in the country.
Just last month, China Mobile declared $3.2 billion worth of vendor contracts for its TD-LTE rollout. Huawei and ZTE snagged 50 percent of the total, while Nokia Siemens and Ericsson each landed 11 percent shares of the project. Alcatel-Lucent secured a 13 percent share of the business.
