Clearwire has finally announced the launch dates for its WiMax network in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The company will turn on service in New York City on November 1 along with Sprint and Time Warner Cable, who will resell Clearwire’s mobile broadband service under their own brands.
Los Angeles is slated to come next, with Clearwire and Sprint launching the service on December 1. The two companies will start WiMax service in San Francisco some time in late December, with Comcast signing on as a reseller for that market. Clearwire did not provide a specific launch date for San Francisco.
Clearwire has begun selling dual-mode 3G/WiMAX service in New York City and Los Angeles that roams onto Sprint’s network when WiMAX coverage is not available.
The company plans to launch in other metropolitan areas by the end of the year, including Denver, Miami, Cincinnati and Cleveland.
