Cricket Hops Into Target

By Staff Author | October 1, 2009

Beginning Sunday, Cricket Communications’ PAYGo products will be on Target shelves – a first for Cricket, which hit Best Buy stores this past Sunday.

With the announcement today, the Leap Wireless International subsidiary will join the likes of prepaid rivals Virgin Mobile USA in Target. Cricket’s PAYGo products will be in nearly 650 Target stores where Cricket service is available.

Cricket’s PAYGo product has been in Wal-Mart and Dollar General for a year, according to a company spokesman.

PAYGo offers unlimited wireless service at $1, $2 or $3 per day used and monthly Cricket PAYGo service plans at $40 and $45 per month. The $45 plan has all the unlimited features of the $40 plan plus unlimited mobile Web and 411 directory assistance.

The new nationwide service plans are inclusive of telecom taxes and fees and include voicemail, call waiting, caller ID and three-way calling over Cricket’s 3G EV-DO network. Cricket PAYGo top-up cards also will be available at select Target locations.

In addition to the service plans, two Cricket phones will be available at Target. They include the Cricket TXTM8 (pronounced: text mate), which is built for text and picture messaging and sells for $89.99. The other device is the Cricket CAPTR for $49.99.
