Cypress Announces Countdown to 1 Billionth CapSense Capacitive Touch-Sensing Controller Shipped

By Staff Author | October 23, 2013

Counter on Cypress.com tracks market leader’s march to milestone; reliable solutions with world-class features drive 4x sales of nearest competitor

SAN JOSE, Calif., October 21, 2013 – Cypress Semiconductor announced it is nearing the shipment of its 1 billionth CapSense capacitive touch-sensing controller. Cypress has launched a counter on www.cypress.com to track the approach to the milestone, which the company will commemorate by recognizing the customer receiving the 1 billionth unit.

Cypress’s CapSense touch-sensing solutions have replaced over 4.5 billion mechanical buttons in mobile handsets, laptops, consumer electronics, home appliances, medical equipment, automotive applications, and many other systems with mechanical buttons or switches.

“Closing in on shipping 1 billion capacitive touch-sensing controllers is proof-positive of our market leadership—now at 4x the sales of the No. 2 provider,” said Hassane El-Khoury, executive vice president of Cypress’s Programmable Systems Division. “Cypress’s reliable, robust CapSense solutions have continued to build a significant market advantage—strengthened through innovative world-class features such as proximity sensing, water tolerance, passive stylus support, and gloved-finger sensing. Equally important, Cypress offers a complete design ecosystem that makes implementing CapSense solutions fast and easy.”

Cypress’s CapSense portfolio, the industry’s broadest and most integrated, enhances industrial design and reliability with the world’s most noise-immune and water tolerant capacitive touch-sensing interfaces, including proximity sensing, where direct touch is not required. CapSense controllers feature the industry’s widest operating voltage range and multiple low-power modes, making them highly suitable for regulated and unregulated battery-operated applications. Cypress’s revolutionary SmartSense Auto-Tuning algorithm saves design and production cycles, accelerating time-to-market for CapSense customers, while ensuring optimal sensor performance during run-time. Cypress also simplifies designs with its EZ-Click customizer tool, GUI-based software that combines device configuration, visual feedback, and production line testing for streamlined register configuration of controllers in its CapSense Express family.
