Data Center Expands to Meet Customer Demand

By Staff Author | May 3, 2012

ViaWest announces the expansion of its Oregon data center facility, the Hillsboro Complex. This expansion will add 23,000 sq. ft. of usable raised floor. The additional space along with the existing facility will total over 50,000 sq. ft. of sellable space, making this SSAE 16 Type II certified facility the largest in the state of Oregon.

ViaWest’s Oregon data center expansion project is driven by significant growth in the region over the past year. Customers across all verticals and company sizes have sought additional capacity within the Hillsboro Complex, validating the requirement for further development to the fully redundant and secure facility.  ViaWest designed the Hillsboro Complex with growth and expansion in mind. ViaWest constructed Hillsboro 1 with the latest power and installation systems, which allows for the easy addition of space in an energy efficient and green manner. Hillsboro 2 will leverage this existing infrastructure, which includes 2(N+1) UPS systems that further enable the facility for high-density configurations.

When developing the plans for this build, ViaWest considered both the needs of its customers and the environment in the design process. Together with Energy Trust of Oregon, ViaWest researched and tested cooling solutions in order to select the most energy efficient system available. Like all ViaWest data center facilities, the Hillsboro Complex is focused on the region it serves, staffed 24×7 by local experts in engineering and support.

“ViaWest was extremely flexible in providing a solution. They worked with us to help us grow, not stifling our growth with huge fees from the beginning,” states Amir Yazdani, EVP, IT & CIO of Rentrak. “The depth of relationships with ViaWest executives was wonderful, both before the sale and today. There is constant, pro-active communication at all levels. Since engaging with ViaWest, our business has increased tenfold.”

“ViaWest is proud to offer the Oregon and Southern Washington market scalable solutions centered around their unique growth,” continues Jim Linkous, Regional Vice President of Sales and General Manager for ViaWest. “Our customers at the Hillsboro Complex range from a wide spectrum of industries and we are committed to serving their needs with a hands-on approach designed to ensure an exceptional customer experience. We hold ourselves accountable for taking care of our communities, both in how our facilities will affect the environment and through civic outreach by our employees.”

ViaWest is a major sponsor of InnoTech taking place on May 3 in Portland, Oregon. Executives from ViaWest will be onsite to discuss its innovative solutions. If you are attending InnoTech and would like to meet with a ViaWest executive or schedule a tour of the Hillsboro Complex, email jsa_viawest@jaymiescotto.com.
