Deutsche Telekom Partners with Samsung to Boost LTE Network

By Diana Goovaerts | October 9, 2015

Deutsche Telekom has partnered with Samsung Electronics to boost its LTE network using a new Inter-Sector MIMO (IS-MIMO) technology, the company announced Friday.

Samsung Executive Vice President and Head of the Networks R&D Team Song Soo Park said IS-MIMO will be “a disruptive technology to deliver uniform service quality regardless of user location.”

According to the DT press release, IS-MIMO improves user experience by combining intra-site cells into one cell and data signal that is transmitted to the user from the best source.

Deutsche Telekom said the technology has improved overall LTE-A customer experience by up to 50 percent and brought peak performance to the cell-edge area in live trials on a test network. IS-MIMO has also been successfully tested with carrier aggregation, the company said.

“The results of this trial are an important milestone in LTE Advanced,” said Deutsche Telekom CTO Bruno Jacobfeuerborn. “As innovation leaders in LTE Advanced, we will continue to work with our partners in the industry to develop this technology into a commercial solution on a device for our customers.
