Red Bend Software’s latest software for over-the-air device updates is vDirect Mobile, a client program spun out from the popular vCurrent system.
The new client began as a feature of vCurrent and also of the vRapid, the latter used for component updates. Now, independently, it’s updated with middleware that carriers and ISVs can use for integrating with operating systems, and for provisioning, configuration and device data retrieval.
vDirect Mobile also can conduct lock-and-wipe procedures when a device is lost or stolen, or just for resale purposes. Companies can customize the device management user interface.
The software works with device management tools from Hewlett Packard’s Bitfone, Humit, IBM, InnoPath, Mformation, MobileTop, Nokia, Sicap and Synchronica. It also complies with the Open Mobile Alliance’s Device Management standards back to version 1.0., the Waltham, Mass., company said.
