It’s that time of year again, when everyone and there brother is tallying up the best and worst of the year. Apparently Electronic Arts (EA) and Gameloft fall into the “good” list, as the two game developers owned a good portion of the top-selling game spots at Apple’s App Store.
According to results published this week by Apple, Electronic Arts took home four of the top five spots in the best-selling games category at the App Store, with the ever popular SIMS ($6.99) for the iPhone taking No. 1. Meanwhile, Gameloft took four of the top 25 spots in the best selling games category, with Oregon Trail ($4.99) taking the second spot in the list.
MobileNavigator North America, which sells for $89.99 and offers turn-by-turn navigation for the iPhone, went home with the best selling app overall for 2009. While Apple billed the lists as “top-selling,” given the relatively high price of some of the apps that made the cut, it’s probable that these are actually the top-grossing apps, not necessarily the apps that sold the most units.
Gameloft recently turned heads when it said that developing for Android wasn’t proving as profitable as developing for the iPhone. It later released a statement saying it will launch high-definition games on next-generation Android phones like the Motorola Droid and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.
