Parallel Wireless, Inc., the pioneer in making cellular network deployments as easy and as cost-effective as Wi-Fi, announces a 3GPP-compliant end-to-end enterprise virtualized RAN (vRAN) solution based on the Cellular Access Point (CAP)/enterprise femto reference designs that use Intel technology. The innovative designs integrate 3G, 4G/LTE, and Wi-Fi with real-time network orchestration, interference mitigation, and resource optimization to enable mobile operators to cost-effectively deploy enterprise HetNets.
The Parallel Wireless approach gives mobile operators the flexibility to choose any Original Device Manufacturer (ODM) CAP hardware that utilizes the Intel Transcede small cell SoC, resulting in much lower hardware CAPEX. As these hardware reference designs combine 3G, 4G/LTE and Wi-Fi functions into a single footprint, using common network connectivity and power, this greatly simplifies the installation and maintenance process.
Orchestration and elastic scheduling, interference management, traffic prioritization, and other enterprise-grade security features on the HetNet Gateway (HNG) from Parallel Wireless make these “white box” Cellular Access Points easy and cost-effective to install and maintain, and deliver substantial TCO savings as a result. The Parallel Wireless fully virtualized HetNet Gateway takes advantages of hardware and software advances from Intel, including Intel Xeon processor-based servers.
These advances enable the delivery of a high-performance, fully-virtualized enterprise RAN on standard high-volume servers. In particular, these new capabilities and associated performance gains enable seamless mobility for enterprise customers, while supporting not only multi-technology, but also multi-operator and multi-core capabilities.
HNG has all the Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) functionality needed to orchestrate enterprise vRANs, and no additional gateways (as in SON server, Small Cell gateway/HeNBGW, HNB gateway/Virtual RNC, security gateway, Wi-Fi gateway (TWAG, SaMOG, ePDG), etc.) are required to provide cohesive integration with the macro network and anchor the enterprise cells’ integration into the core network.
Steve Papa, founder and CEO, Parallel Wireless, said, “Parallel Wireless has developed the industry’s first scalable, low-cost, high-performance enterprise vRAN solution enabled by key Intel technologies. We are excited to work closely with Intel and its ecosystem partners Alpha Networks, and additional partners to be announced in upcoming weeks, to introduce a solution for enterprises of any size at one-tenth of the cost of currently-available enterprise small cell solutions. Instead of days, deployment takes just a few hours, and doesn’t require RF planning or extensive system integration, as Parallel Wireless HetNet Gateway makes enterprise vRAN not only self-configuring, but self-optimizing, and self-healing. Our Enterprise vRAN solution is now being deployed by operators in the enterprise.”
Naser Adas, general manager of the Heterogeneous Network Solutions Group at Intel, said, “By expanding its portfolio based on Intel technology, Parallel Wireless is addressing the enterprise segment with a scalable, flexible, and high-performance architecture that serves the enterprise across heterogeneous network technologies, from Wi-Fi to cellular small cell solutions.”
