ESPN isn’t taking Verizon’s new ala carte “FiOS Custom” cable plans.
The cable sports network, which is owned by Disney, today filed a lawsuit Monday alleging that Verizon’s latest offer violates the terms of the two company’s existing contracts.
Verizon said consumers have spoken and they want more choice.
“We are well within our rights under our agreements to offer our customers these choices,” a Verizon spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.
Verizon’s FiOS Custom bundle starts at $59.99 per month, which includes a base package of 35 channels plus two additional channel packs. For instance, a customer might get the base package plus the sports package and the kids package. Each additional channel pack costs $10 extra per month.
ESPN argues that its channels cannot be included on a separate price tier under the terms of its agreement with Verizon.
Verizon Monday announced that CBS Sports Network has just joined the Sports Channel Pack on the FiOS Custom TV lineup.
