Firefox today announced Firefox OS smartphones will soon be available in Asia Pacific and Latin America markets.
Spice and Intex will soon launch low-cost Firefox OS phones in India. Telenor plans to bring Firefox devices to Asia by the end of the year. Taiwan carrier Chunghwa Telecom have committed to carry the devices as well.
Telefónica has said it will offer Firefox OS phones across all its Latin America markets by the end of the year and follow that with availability in Central America, Argentina and Ecuador. The carrier recently started selling the ZTE Open C and Open II and plans to soon offer the Alcatel Onetouch Fire C. América Móvil launched Firefox OS devices in Mexico this summer and is planning on expanding to its Latin America markets soon.
Firefox OS also announced expansion in Europe. Deutsche Telekom and Telefónica (through O2) will start selling the Alcatel Onetouch Fire E in Germany. ZTE plans to launch the Open C in France later this month.
Firefox said its web-based operating system is now available on seven smartphones offered by five operators in 15 countries.
Looking ahead, Firefox said it has partnered with Thundersoft to build a Firefox OS Flame reference phone. The Flame is a mid-tier device Firefox plans to launch later this year.
