Keith Cowan will leave his post as head of Sprint‘s strategic planning at the end of September, the operator disclosed in a Wednesday regulatory filing. The decision to part ways with the executive was made on Aug. 2, Sprint said. It provided no additional details about the depature and did not return requests for comment, but spokesman Bill White told The Wall Street Journal () that he was leaving to attend to “civic and charitable and other obligations” and that his exit was “not related to third-party concerns.” Cowen’s responsibilities at Sprint included mergers and acquisitions.

Boingo Wireless yesterday announced that the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority has selected the company to manage and operate tiered Wi-Fi services throughout Raleigh-Durham airport. Boingo’s will provide tiered Wi-Fi services to travelers. Tiered services include a complimentary Wi-Fi service option for casual users looking to surf the Internet, check their email and update their social media profiles. Boingo will also offer premium Wi-Fi services, allowing business travelers and power users to engage in data intensive activities such as accessing corporate VPNs, downloading large files and streaming high definition video.

Motorola Solutions venture capital arm has invested in mobile security and risk management company Fixmo. The size of the investment was not disclosed. Fixmo says the cash will be used to fund research and development and its expansion into global markets.

The Rural Cellular Association (RCA) has appointed Craven Shumaker to its board of directors. Shumaker is the president and CEO of Iowa Wireless Services, also called i wireless, a regional carrier spanning areas of Iowa and western Illinois. The company is a long-time member of the RCA.
