Rumors that Nokia is selling off its luxury phone business have surfaced again. This time around, Reuters is reporting that Nokia is negotiating with private equity firm EQT to sell off its Vertu subsidiary for about $249 million. The companies could sign on the acquisition as early as this week but the deal may still fall through, unnamed sources told the publication.
AT&T is stepping up its enterprise mobility offerings with updates to its Toggle platform, which creates separate personal and work modes on smartphones and tablets. The newest version of AT&T Toggle can be used on smartphone or tablet devices running most major operating systems, including devices originally loaded with Android 2.2, and with “virtually any” service provider. Toggle was first introduced last year. AT&T reports that there has been an “explosion” in the use of tablets among its business customers over the past year.
Facebook is the highlight of a new phone from Sony Mobile Communications. The new Xperia miro has “Facebook social experiences integrated throughout” including alerts, updates and video chat. The Android-based phone has front- and rear-facing cameras, DLNA connectivity and a 3.5-inch display. The Xperia miro was announced alongside the Xperia tipo, an entry-level Android device that comes in both single- and dual-SIM versions. Both smartphones will launch worldwide in the third quarter, but Sony did not name specific countries or operators.
Novatel Wireless says its latest machine-to-machine module, the Enabler HS 3001, is now certified for use on Verizon Wireless’ network. The module supports CDMA on the 800MHz and 1900 MHz bands. The module is designed for for faster deployment and supports voice and SMS, among other features.
