Boost Mobile is targeting Hispanic consumers with its new Shooting Star marketing campaign, produced by Dallas-based Hispanic advertising agency, iNSPIRE! The campaign, launched Monday, features a Shooting Star character that grants affordable WiMAX service to Boost customers. The ads feature the HTC Evo Design 4G and Boost’s Android plans.
Sierra Wireless is acquiring Sagemcom’s machine-to-machine business. Sierra said Monday it was paying $56.6 million for the assets, which includes 2G and 3G wireless modules, rugged GSM terminals for trains and customers in Brazil. The deal still must pass a “consultation process” with employees before France-based Sagemcom can sign a definitive agreement with Sierra Wireless, expected to occur in the third quarter.
ZTE has taken the wraps off its first single-chip LTE smartphone, the Grand X LTE, also called the T82. The Android smartphone uses Qualcomm’s MSM8960 chip and comes loaded with a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, front- and rear-facing cameras and a high-capacity battery. The device will hit Asia Pacific and European markets in the third quarter.
Dropcam has raised $12 million in its latest funding round led by Menlo Ventures and existing investors including Accel Partners and Bay Partners. The Series B round brings Dropcam’s total funding to $17.8 million. The cash will be used to hire software developers and expand manufacturing of its Wi-Fi video monitoring cameras.
