Livewire Mobile says Sprint and MetroPCS are the latest carriers to sign up for its music and ringtone service. Sprint customers can download the Livewire-powered Sprint Music Plus app on Android and feature phones. MetroPCS is preloading the app on its Android smartphones. Livewire says the contracts will more than double its revenues for the 2013 fiscal year over its 2011 sales.
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is praising AT&T’s text-to-911 trial in Tennessee. “This trial represents a significant step forward in migrating our traditional voice-centric 911 system to a next-generation system that will enable consumers in need of help to communicate with public safety responders by text as well as voice, and eventually to transmit photos, videos, and other data that will help improve emergency response,” he said in a statement released Friday. The statewide trial will use Tennessee’s new emergency service IP network and IP network backbone.
The GSMA is aiming to make roaming charges more understandable to consumers in Latin America through a new program launched with more than 40 Latin American operators. America Movil, Antel, Entel Chile, Millicom, Oi, Orange, Telecom Italia and Telefonica are among the participants who have agreed to a number of measures that will make roaming charges more transparent to subscribers.
Infosys is buying management consulting firm Lodestone Holding AG for 330 million Swiss francs, or $348 million. The transaction will help Infosys expand its presence in Europe with the addition of more than 750 consultants and 200 clients, as well as increase its market share in Latin America and Asia Pacific. Lodestone specializes in advising international corporations on strategy and process optimization, and provides SAP solutions and consulting.
