Google has chalked up another milestone for its Android operating system. Product Management Director Hugo Barra said in a Google+ post on Tuesday that 500 million Android devices have been activated worldwide, and more than 1.3 million Android devices are added every day.
CTIA and a group of six other trade associations are lobbying Congress to free up additional spectrum for the wireless industry. The letter to the ranking members of the Energy and Commerce Committee and Communications and Technology Subcommittee notes that traffic on licensed mobile network over the past two years has exceeded FCC forecasts. “With numbers like that, spectrum efficiency and tower deployment alone won’t be enough, though our members are committed to both. We’ll also need more spectrum, and soon,” the groups said.
Mobile video chat provider ooVoo bolstered its executive ranks yesterday with the appointment of Jay Samit as president and Larry Lieberman as chief marketing officer. The two executives have worked together before, most recently at digital media marketing company SocialVibe. Oovoo said it has more than 56 million registered users worldwide.
Telenity has been recognized for its Canvas location-based social networking solution. The product won first place at ICT Summit Eurasia 2012 Awards on Tuesday. Two of India’s leading GSM mobile operators use Canvas as a managed service.
