Solavei launched its social-centric wireless service on Friday. Customers can earn cash for getting others to sign up for Solavei, “essentially making their mobile service free and profitable,” the company said. The T-Mobile MVNO was founded by former Motricity CEO Ryan Wuerch.
As expected, the FCC will vote on a proposal to change the way it measures spectrum consolidation at its next open meeting on Sept. 28. The commission will also vote on a measure to move forward with voluntary auctions of television broadcast spectrum, as well as changes to satellite licensing requirements.

The enterprise-focused event will feature keynote addresses ranging from Zipcar CEO Scott Griffith to Defense Department Deputy CIO Robert Wheeler. MobileCON runs from Oct. 9-11 at the San Diego Convention Center.
Overture Networks has appointed former Ciena executive Mike Aquino as president and CEO. Current CEO and cofounder Jeff Reedy will remain on as Overture’s chief strategy officer. Aquino previously held executive positions at Ciena, where he worked on a number of acquisitions including its purchase of Nortel Networks’ metro ethernet business.
Azimuth Systems, a provider of wireless testing solutions, today announced the availability of the latest release of its Azimuth Field-to-Lab (FTL) solution, version 2.4. The product now offers test cases with added support for new scanners and file formats, including TD-SCDMA with QXDM and JDSU, UMTS with Anite Nemo, and native support for LTE with XCAL, as well as mapping enhancements and increased built-in mapper intelligence.
