HTC has added its name to the list of expected device announcements this month. The handset maker sent out invites for a Sept. 19 event yesterday. Other companies hosting events this month include Apple, Motorola Mobility and Nokia, which unveiled its new phones this morning. Motorola’s device unveiling comes this afternoon, with Apple’s scheduled for Sept. 12.
Verizon Wireless will start selling a new LTE smartphone from Samsung tomorrow. The Android-based Galaxy Stellar sports a compact form factor, a 4-inch display, 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, front- and rear-facing cameras and a number of preloaded apps from Amazon Kindle, Zappos, IMDB and Audible. The phone has been certified by Samsung’s enterprise mobility program and features on-device AES 256-bit encryption. Customers who sign up for a new two year contract can get the phone for free after a $50 mail-in rebate.
AT&T is targeting new smartphone customers with the Pantech Flex, an Android handset that allows users to switch between the full-featured operating system and a simplified version. The Flex is compatible with AT&T’s LTE network and has a 4.3-inch display, 1.5 GHz processor and front- and rear-facing cameras. It will become available Sept. 16 for about $50 with new two-year contract.
Dish Network Chairman Charlie Ergen will give a keynote speech at PCIA‘s upcoming conference in Florida. Ergen will discuss Dish Network’s wireless plans, the organization said. Other speakers for the Wireless Infrastructure Show include FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and executives from Cisco and AT&T. The event runs from Oct. 1-4 at the Peabody Orlando.
Personal Communications Devices has named George Appling as its new president and CEO, succeeding former chief executive Philip Christopher. Appling most recently served as a partner at Booz & Company, and held the position of COO at BrightStar.
