First News Briefs: Sprint, MetroPCS, ABI Research, Ascom, Royal KPN

Sprint announced Sprint Phone Connect System 1. Available Friday, Nov. 8, in all Sprint sales channels, including Sprint Stores, Sprint Business Sales, Web Sales and Telesales at 1-800-SPRINT1, Sprint Phone Connect System offers homeowners and small business customers two cordless phones for $49.99 with a new line or eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement (excluding taxes).

MetroPCS announced availability of the Kyocera Hydro XTRM, a waterproof, dust-proof and shock-proof Android smartphone. The device is available at MetroPCS, a brand of T-Mobile US, Inc. (NYSE: TMUS), for $169 plus tax.

Based on 2Q-2013 year financial results, China Mobile snagged the top position for most profitable mobile carrier, followed by Verizon Wireless and AT&T respectively. The fourth and fifth positions were taken by European carriers with global operations, Telefónica and Vodafone. The top 5 mobile carriers represent 49% of total gross profit generated by the 50 largest mobile carriers tracked by ABI Research.

Ascom Wireless Solutions and Royal KPN N.V. have announced a strategic alliance to create joint offerings for mission-critical communication solutions based on cellular network technology to the healthcare segment.
