TE Connectivity today announced that its FlexWave Prism distributed antenna system (DAS) has been deployed to restore wireline and wireless telephone service on New York’s Fire Island. When Hurricane Sandy destroyed the wireline telephone infrastructure on the island, the local wireline service provider and its wireless counterpart teamed up to deploy FlexWave Prism DAS to bring landline, E911, LTE and 3G mobile services to the area. Local residents plug their landline phones into a wireless gateway to receive dial tone and normal telephone service, while mobile users can also access the network through their cell phones and smartphones.
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) today announced the debut of a new membership class for small businesses, Small Business Associate. The new membership class makes it easier for companies with annual revenues less than $10 million to develop products with Qi, the world’s most widely-adopted wireless charging standard.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) awarded two contracts to AT&T‘s Federal Government business – the first, valued at more than $50 million, covers the enhancement of data network connectivity to USPS retail and support locations, spanning all 50 states and U.S. territories. The second USPS contract win, estimated at approximately $3.5 million, will see AT&T provide Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Service (MTIPS) to USPS headquarters in Washington D.C. and two major USPS data centers, one in California and the other in Minnesota.
