FirstNews Briefs: Assurance Wireless, Samsung, The Hunger Games, Broadcom

Assurance Wireless, a Lifeline program that began offering service in California in 2013, is launching an enhanced free offer for eligible low-income Californians. The California FREEdom plan includes unlimited free voice minutes and unlimited free texts, an offer supported by the California LifeLine and federal Lifeline Assistance programs.

Boingo Wireless announced the appointment of Lance Rosenzweig as an independent member of the company’s Board of Directors, effective immediately. Rosenzweig is the Chief Executive of Aegis USA and brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience.

Lionsgate and Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC have teamed up on the next installment of the Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. The collaboration will launch with all fans getting a sneak peek of the film’s first official teaser trailer, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, exclusively on Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab S ahead of its online release. Fans will have the opportunity to preview the trailer on the Galaxy Tab S at an exclusive premiere in San Diego during Comic-Con on Friday, July 25. For those outside San Diego, beginning Saturday, July 26, fans can visit participating Samsung Experience Shops within Best Buy locations nationwide throughout the weekend to preview the trailer.

Broadcom Corporation announced its next-generation devices for residential, enterprise and outdoor small cell networks: The BCM61735, BCM61755 and BCM61765 system-on-a-chip (SoC). Broadcom’s third generation low-power small cell baseband processors double the capacity for operators and carriers to offload data traffic from increasingly congested 3G, 4G/LTE mobile and Wi-Fi (802.11n and 802.11ac) networks.
