FirstNews Briefs: Cisco, Sensity, Nokia, Vuzix, SAP, PakSense

By Wireless Week staff | October 17, 2014

Cisco and Sensity Systems, a provider of Light Sensory Networks (LSN), today announced that the two companies have entered into a strategic relationship that utilizes Sensity’s NetSense platform as a foundation for Cisco’s City Infrastructure Management (CIM) software. As part of the agreement, Cisco joins Sensity’s NetSense Partner Program to create a joint solution that converts city lighting infrastructure into a distributed sensing platform for Smart City applications, such as smart parking, lighting, retail analytics, and public safety and security.

Nokia Networks has collaborated with other equipment vendors and operators to create a new European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Industry Specification Group (ISG) for Mobile Edge Computing (MEC). The initiative will focus on open architecture and application programming interfaces (APIs) for value creation in mobile multi-vendor environments for a range of computing platforms, including Nokia Liquid Applications.

Vuzix Corporation, a supplier of Video Eyewear and Smart Glasses products in the consumer, commercial and entertainment markets, today announced that SAP has released two new applications for Vuzix’ M100 Smart Glasses for the enterprise markets: the new augmented reality (AR) applications, SAP AR Warehouse Picker and the SAP AR Service Technician. In support of SAP’s software rollout, Vuzix has started shipping upgraded M100 Smart Glasses to SAP’s sales team members, pre-loaded with the SAP demo software.

PakSense, Inc., a provider of environmental monitoring solutions, today announced the availability of AutoSense. AutoSense automatically delivers cold chain temperature data to smartphones, increasing efficiencies at perishable receiving locations. The system, typically installed in distribution centers or retail locations, is self-contained, utilizes cellular networks, and does not require IT departments to oversee installation or ongoing maintenance. Utilizing AutoSense, receiving staff can make better product quality and safety decisions before products are unloaded by consulting their smartphones.
