• Redknee announced that an unnamed North American Tier 1 communications service provider has awarded Redknee a multi-million dollar contract for a solution that will enable its wireless subscribers to set individual user limits and preferences for voice, text and data services. The company expects the bulk of the revenue from the contract will be recognized during fiscal 2009.
• TeleNav added new features to its TeleNav Shotgun, a 2-way, Internet-connected GPS personal navigation device (PND) developed for business travelers. Customers can now track miles driven using TeleNav Shotgun. TeleNav Shotgun also now provides customers with ratings and reviews for various points of interest, including restaurants, hotels and shopping malls, and allows customers to rate the venues directly from their device.
• Airvana appointed Glenn Laxdal as vice president of femtocell product management. Most recently, he served as vice president of global product management for Nortel‘s CDMA and LTE Carrier Business.
• WeFi announced the launch of a free online directory of Wi-Fi hot spots. The directory, available at the WeFi Web site or in the United States by dialing 4WEFI on a mobile phone, allows people to locate the closest Wi-Fi connection and includes more than 1 million mapped Wi-Fi hot spots with the address and location details listed.
